The aim of this study is to evaluate technology`s commercial viability and to obtain the assessment of commercial opportunity of 20 promising technologies. The method of Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) is used for the weight allocation of technology`s commercial viability criteria. A survey was conducted with venture capitalists, business managers, and public policy makers in the information technology sector. The weight allocation of technology`s commercial viability criteria is derived from reciprocal paired comparisons. Then overall priority for the commercial viability of 20 technologies is derived by rating 20 alternatives one at a time on a 7 point likert-scale constructed separately for each criterion. In conclusion, we apply a systematic approach to technology`s commercial viability assessment using AHP. Furthermore, an application is used to identify the most commercially viable technology via the Priority Index. This study may be of help for companies and the government to identify technologies with commercial potential and it can assist in assessing the commercial potential of various technologies.
