Lee T`oegye(李退溪, 1501∼1570) met with a massacre of scholars in the period of holding a public office. And he had an eye to leave government office. But in the state of greeting the king Sunjo(宣祖)who was came to the throne in 16 years old, he emphasized the governmental theory of a good and wise king as follows. 1) All the state of governing depend on the temperament of king. 2) The great subject is that the king have to sacrifice himselfinterest to public good. 3) The method of it is to make every effort for manners of moral life. 4) For the purpose of a high practical level, it is necessary to study Confucian classics and the human society.On the T`oegye`s theory of overcoming one′s own self-interest we can find modern significance as follows.Firstly, enhancing the self-control ability for a just life.Secondly, contributing the rooting out corruption for public good.Thirdly, going together for the uplifting of the standard of publicmorals.
