Purpose: This study aimed to identify differences between falls experience, characteristics and associated factors of falls, and joint flexibility among the community-dwelling elderly. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional study design. The subjects of this study were 213 older adults over 65 years who visited a community welfare center in Gyeonggi province. From March 2010 to February 2011, data were collected through personal interviews using questionnaires and measurements of joint flexibility. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, chi-square analysis, and t-test. Results: The result of differences in fall related factors were sleep disturbance (t=4.83, p =.028), taking psychotropic drugs (t=6.89, p =.009), and general weakness (t=8.65, p =.003). There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in the joint flexibility. Conclusion: To decrease and prevent fall, specific nursing strategies should be needed to improve the physical health status among elderly are needed. In particular, older adults having sleep disturbance, taking psychotropic drugs, and having general weakness require tailored prevention strategies.
