전통적으로 인식론은 지식에 대한 이론, 즉 지식론과 동일한 것으로 간주되어왔다. 그래서 인식론은 일반적 차원에서 주로 지식이나 인식적 정당화에 관계한다. 반면에 윤리학은 어떤 행위가 도덕적으로 올바르고 어떤 행위가 그릇된지, 어떤 종류의 것들이 본래적으로 좋거나 나쁜지, 성품의 어떤 특성이 도덕적 덕이나 악덕인지 등에 관계되어 있다. 지식이나 인식적 정당화와 관련하여 인식론에서 제기되는 일반적 물음들이 범위를 좁혀 도덕이나 윤리의 영역에 적용되면 그런 물음들은 이른바 도덕 인식론이라는 분야의 물음을 형성한다. 이 논문은 도덕 인식론을 소개하고, 윤리학에서 논의되는 비인지주의와 윤리적 회의주의가 도덕 인식론의 성립에 어떻게 위협이 되는지 검토하려는 것이 목적이다. 그래서 전통적으로 윤리학이 인식론, 형이상학과 더불어 철학의 커다란 세 가지 접근방식으로 간주되어왔지만, 윤리학의 주제들에 대해 인식론적 물음을 제기하고, 그 중에서도 도덕적 지식에 관한 회의적 입장을 집중적으로 검토한다. 그러기 위해 우선 지식에 대한 전통적 분석을 제시하고, 일반적 회의주의와 윤리적 회의주의를 구별한 다음, 전통적 지식 개념과 연관시켜 도덕적 지식에 관해 회의적 입장에 빠질 수 있는 두 가지 방식, 즉 비인지주의와 윤리적 회의주의를 소개한다. 도덕적 지식에 관한 이 회의적 견해들은 도덕적 지식의 가능성에 대한 위협이 된다는 점에서 도덕 인식론이라는 탐구 분야의 성립가능성과 직결되어 있다.

According to one traditional understanding, epistemology is the theory of knowledge. It is concerned with analyzing knowledge or specifying the conditions that must be satisfied for something to count as knowledge, with determining what we know and accounting for how we know it. In contrast, Ethics is concerned with what actions are morally right and wrong, what kinds of things are intrinsically good or bad, and what traits of character are moral virtues or vices. Accordingly, moral epistemology would be concerned with moral knowledge and epistemic justification. This paper introduces moral epistemology, and aims to examine threatens posed by non-cognitivism and ethical skepticism. I ask epistemological questions about ethical subject, and focus on skeptical views about moral knowledge. To do that, I account for the traditional analysis of knowledge, distinguish between general skepticism and partial or local skepticism, and offer two skeptical views, viz. non-cognitivism and ethical skepticism. Finally, I critically examine these views. These skeptical views connected with viability of moral epistemology in that they threatens to moral knowledge.
