우리 도덕과 교육의 지속적으로 직면하고 있는 정체성 위기를 극복할 수 있는 근원적 대안의 출발점을 현재의 상황에 대한 정확한 인식이다. 이러한 인식은 직접적으로 우리에게 다가오는 생멸 차원의 인식과 당위와 진리의 영역을 지향하는 진여 차원의 인식으로 구별될 수 있다. 이 논문은 전자의 인식에 기반하면서도 이론 차원의 접근을 통해 문제 해결을 시도하는 진여 차원의 시도이다. 도덕과 교육을 이끌어가는 이론의 문제에 초점을 맞출 때 교과의 토대를 이룬 우리 도덕교육 전통에 대한 재평가와 함께 현재의 이론적 배경을 이루고 있는 서양 도덕교육 이론의 주체적 수용이 동시에 이루어져야 하고, 이 논문에서는 그 중에서 주로 후자에 초점을 맞추고 있다. 먼저 습관화와 수양 또는 훈습과 수행이라는 단계적 접근을 현재적 상황에 맞게 재구성할 필요가 있고, 사회윤리 교육의 차원에서는 수기안인과 연기적 독존주의라는 유교와 불교의 사회철학을 활용하여 개인의 도덕성과 사회 구조의 도덕성이 만날 수 있는 이론적 지점을 더 확고히 할 필요가 있다. 그런 후에는 현대 도덕심리학과 윤리학의 주된 흐름을 형성하고 있는 윤리적 자연주의를 동양도덕교육론에서 어떻게 수용할 것인지에 대해서도 좀 더 치밀한 논의가 필요하다.

The purpose of this article is to find out an eastern ethical alternative for the advancement of moral subject education at South Korea. Our approach to moral education is moral subject education and this approach is from the Korean tradition of education, especially from Korean Confucianism and Korean Buddhism. But our moral subject education is constructed from the modern western theories, especially L. Kohlberg`s theory. As a result, our moral subject education is confused from theory to practices. Korean traditional approach to moral education is the unity of moral habituation and moral cultivation, ie. Hunshup(薰習) and Shuheng(修行). This Unity is from the Kisinron`s way of thought(起信論的思 惟). We have to try reconstruct our traditional approach of moral developmental stages and to construct social ethics` education of Confucius Shugianin(修己安人) and Buddhist theory of pratityasamutpada(緣 起性), and we must be reconstruct the western theories of moral education focusing on the citizenship of modern civic society.
