본고는 위진현학의 창시자이며, 정시 연간의 현학 사조를 이끌었던 왕필의 경학관을 논어석의에 초점을 맞추어 분석하였다. 기존의 왕필 현학 연구는 국내·외를 막론하고 왕필의 대표작인 주역주와 노자주를 중심으로 이루어져 왔다. 따라서 또 하나의 중요 저작인 논어석의는 왕필 경학을 살피는 핵심 문헌임에도 불구하고 상대적으로 소홀한 취급을 받았다. 논어석의는 공맹유학의 대표 문헌인 논어에 대한 왕필의 현학적 해석이다. 그러므로 왕필의 경학관을 연구하는 차원에서 논어석의는 필수적으로 검토되어야 한다. 이 문헌을 검토해 본 결과 왕필의 사상은 경학적 기반위에서 구축되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 경학적 기반 위에서 구축된 왕필의 철학은 유가와 도가를 융합한 모습으로 나타난다. 왕필의 현학은 먼저 "도"에 대한 명시적 정의에서 출발한다. 그는 도를 "無"로 해석하면서 貴無論의 효시를 이룬다. 도는 유가와 도가의 사상을 통합하는 핵심 개념이다. 왕필이 생각한 도의 내용적 특성은 무위자연이다. 인간의 본성은 이 도를 본받아 자연성에 기반을 두고 있고, 본성이 발현된 감정도 무위자연에 따를 때 온전한 모습을 지닌다. 이와 같은 모습의 인간을 이상적 인간으로 상정하고 성인이라 부른다. 왕필 현학의 최종 귀착은 도와 인간의 문제를 구명하면서 바람직한 "사회 제도 또는 명교"와 "자연 또는 본성"의 관계를 철학적으로 정초하는 것이다. 왕필은 인간이 구축한 문명의 차별적 사회 제도가 우주자연의 무차별적 본성과 조화롭게 융합할 수 있는 길을 모색하였으며, 이것이 논어석의에 명시적으로 드러난 왕필 경학의 현학적 특성이다.

The World of Neo-Taoist thought(玄學) is a creature of the times from the Wei-Jin dynasties. Neo-Taoist thoughts have inherited two ancient Taoist and Confucian philosophers in Ancient China. Wang Pi (王弼); whom is also the founder of Neo-Taoist thoughts from the Wei-Jin dynasty. According to Wang Pi`s classical studies, I can say that the thoughts of Wang Pi are similar to a synthesis of two ancient Taoist and Confucian traditions. In which Wang Pi`s organic thinking of the world in which man belongs to Taoism and Confucianism. Because he believes that Cosmos(自然) is the way things becomes, the way of process in changing and dynamic reality itself in the world or as cosmos. The ethical norms of any society(名敎) are realized upon its metaphysical principle(道). And to go one step further, the system of social orders or its dominating social integration are also influenced by this inter―dynamic relation of the ethical norm and ontological concept. This is according to Wang Pi`s opinion on human nature and the way things are connected in the great universe. The ethical norms of any society and the cosmos are also connected in the great Universe.
