本稿は、大學の國際競爭力の强化が迫られる日本の高等敎育の現場にあって、國際大學の多文化環境における硏究と敎育がもたらす諸問題を學生と敎員の雙方のアイデンティティ形成にからめながら論じようとするものである。多文化環境における敎育は、これまでの敎育の方法のたんなる飜譯では解決できない問題をはらんでいる。とりあげるのは、いずれも學際的な硏究分野である東南アジア硏究とジェンダ―論の敎育である。そこでは、日本人敎員が東南アジア出身の學生に東南アジアについて敎育をおこない、日本人の女性敎員がジェンダ―についてヨ―ロッパ出身の男子學生に母語ではない英語で敎えるということが起きる。これらの實踐では、對象であると思っていたことがらが、いつのまにか主體に作用していたことを思い知らされるきっかけを與え、自明であったものごとをあらためて問いなおす契機となるのである。

In the context of globalization and the need of international competition which Japanese universities are now facing, this paper tries to argue the problems of education and research in an international university in terms of the question of identity-formation of both students and instructors. These topics of education and research in a multi-cultural environment give rise to the problem that cannot be solved by the simple translation of existing methods of education. This paper will focus on two inter-disciplinary fields such as Southeast Asian Studies and Gender Studies, where Japanese instructors teach the issue on Southeast Asia to the students who are from Southeast Asia and a Japanese female instructor teaches the topics on gender in English to male students from European countries. It can be said that these practices lead to question that which is thought as self-evident.
