This article is about pastoral ministry and empathy. This article has an assumption that the visible and the invisible are interrelated. The other assumption is that the central and the marginal are inter-connected. With these assumptions, this article explores self psychological approach to empathy and examines self psychological notions for pastoral ministry. In order to perform this examination, this article attempts to do self psychological interpretation of a biblical event, ``Jesus`` encounter with Zaccheus` along with social psychological interpretation. This article concludes with pastoral implications that can be drawn from dialogue with self psychological understanding of empathy.
