This study examined what kinds of listening activities EFL learners prefer and find helpful to enhance their listening competence. The study also analyzed the relationship between preferred and helpful activities and the effect these activities had on the participants` test scores. After learners completed a variety of L2 listening related activities, their attitudes toward each activity were collected through a 7-point scale survey. The participants in the research were 61 Korean EFL university students enrolled in "English Listening Practice" course. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, ANOVA, bivariate correlation, and Multiple Regression. While not statistically significant, the overall results demonstrated the learners preferred some activities and regarded certain activities more helpful than the others. Conversely, follow-up analyses revealed significant differences within [+abroad] group and [-abroad] group respectively in regards to their preference and perceived helpfulness of the listening activities. However, no significant correlation was found between the activities learners preferred and those they regarded as helpful. It was also found that learner preference had some significant impact on final exam scores. Some pedagogical implications and suggestions for Korean EFL learners are also discussed.
