정신장애인의 사회적응은 의료재활중심모델에서 정신사회재활모델로의 패러다임을 보여주는 현상중의 하나이다. 지금까지 지역사회 정신보건기관들은 정신 병리적 차원에서 집단화된 치료프로그램이 그 주류를 이루어 왔지만, 정신장애인이 지역사회 내에서 다양한 재활치료를 통하여 사회적 기능을 회복하고 사회에 복귀시켜 사회통합을 이루고자 하는 것이 정신사회재활모델에 입각한 보편적 정신보건 서비스의 정책적인 실천방향인 것이다. 본 연구에서는 정신장애인의 정신사회재활모델에 입각하여 정신장애인이 지각하는 사회적 차별과 사회적응에 관한 인구사회학적 특성 및 임상적 특성, 정신장애인이 지각하는 사회적 차별의 세 가지 차원의 영향력을 종합훈련 사회복귀시설이 있는 서울과 종합훈련 사회복귀시설이 없는 충남의 정신장애인을 대상으로 비교 분석함으로써, 정신장애인이 지역사회 내에서 적절하게 사회적응 할 수 있도록 도움을 주고자 하는데 목적이 있다.

Social adjustment of the people with mental disorders is one of phenomena which has been a paradigm shift from medical rehabilitation model to psychosocial rehabilitation model, Even though psychologically designed collectivized treatment programs have been the mainstreams of local mental health institutions so far, general mental health services based on mental rehabilitation model designed for social integration by restoring social functions of people with mental disorders and returning them to society through various psychosocial rehabilitation programs in local community should be the policy line. In this study, comparison and analysis of the people with mental disorders from Seoul where composite training social rehabilitation facilities were located and Chungnam where such facilities didn``t exist have been conducted to identify influences from the three dimensional points of view such as demographic characteristics. clinical characteristics and social discrimination perceived by the people with mental disorders on the basis of mental rehabilitation model.
