이 연구는 일제강점기 재미 한인의 연극 활동을 고찰하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 특히 본고에서는 『新韓民報』와 『國民報』 등 두 신문에 게재된 연극 보도자료를 중심 텍스트로 삼았다. 본론에서는 신문에서 수집·정리한 실증적 자료를 통해 시기별로 극문학 작품 및 공연 정보 등을 살펴보며 다음과 같은 사항들에 주목하였다. 첫째, 연극 활동을 전개한 주체측과 배우 및 연출가는 누구이며, 공연 목적은 무엇인가? 둘째, 희곡 작품은 어떠한 것이 있으며 그 내용적 특징은 무엇인가? 셋째, 희곡론 및 연극론은 어떻게 전개되었는가? 넷째 관객의 반응은 어떠했는가? 등이다. 이상의 검토를 통해 일제강점기 재미 한인의 연극 활동 등을 재구해내고 이에서 해외 한인의 연극 활동에 대한 이해의 지평을 넓히고자 했다. 구체적인 분석에서는 1) 공연 주체와 연극 활동, 2) 연극 내용과 그 특징, 3) 연극에 대한 이해와 관객 반응 등의 목차를 통해 일제강점기 재미 한인의 연극 활동을 고찰하였다.

This study analyzed about Korean play activity of koean immigrants in the United States. And this treatise considered play data reported to a newspaper, that is,『The New Korea』 and 『The Korean National Herald』 This study tried to consider play and performance information through the data which it was collected at newspapers, and arranged at the main subjects. It was paid attention by the following matters. The the first, the subject part that put on a display of play activity is anyone, and an actor and a director, a performance purpose is anything. The the second, the play work is anything, and the internal volume characteristics are anything. The third, how to unfold the play and the drama-theory. The fourth, how to response of audience. It tried to consider play activity in the Japanese Colonial Period, through the above-mentioned examinations. And It would enlarge the horizon of understanding regarding play activity of a Korean abroad. Actual study analysis analyzed through understanding regarding 1) performance subject and play activity, 2) play contents and the characteristics, 3) play and audience responses etc. tables of contents and would grasp real truth by play activity through these processes in the Japanese Colonial Period.
