Korea has long been considered as a single race and a monolingual country, however due to the initiation of Industrial Trainee System and the recent increase of interracial marriages, the population of foreigners also has grown rapidly. Though there has been the clear evidence in rapid increase of multicultural population, the national policy including Korean education has been based mostly on the assimilation theory, which disregards possible advantages of having diversity in a nation. With the increase of multicultural children`s population in public schools, their language education has become a problem. Such problem can be resolved with bilingual education that is modified to fit the educational environment and local situation. Hence, a survey was conducted in order to understand the current situation of multicultural children`s language education and the awareness of bilingual education. Furthermore, in the process the opinions regarding implementation of bilingual education were also surveyed. As a result, bilingual education in general was favored by most of the participants, and more specifically, the result indicates that a well-balanced bilingual education, a bilingual education that equally distributes parents` language and Korean.
