본 연구는 접대비지출액과 접대비한도초과액이 기업가치와 경영성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 분석결과에 따른 부호검증을 통해 기업가치(토빈Q)와 경영성과(ROI) 간의 유사성을 파악하고자 2002년부터 2009년까지 상장기업 3400개를 대상으로 이를 검증하였다. 검증방법은 기업가치변수인 토빈Q와 기업경영성과변수인 총자산순이익률(ROI)을 각각 종속변수로 하고, 접대비지출총액, 접대비한도초과액, 기업규모(LnTA)와 시장위험M(Beta)을 독립변수로 사용하여 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 독립변수 중 기업규모와 시장위험은 통제변수로 사용되었다. 분석대상기업은 전체표본, 대형주, 중형주, 소형주 집단으로 구분하여 분석에 사용되었다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대형주를 제외한 전체표본, 중형주, 소형주 집단에서 접대비지출총액과 접대비한도초과액은 기업가치 Tobin Q에는 유의적인 양(+)의 영향을 주지만 경영성과 ROI에는 유의적인 음(-)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 접대비지출총액과 접대비한도초과액이 기업가치 토빈Q와 경영성과 ROI에 미치는 부호검증에서 대형주의 경우만 모두 음(-)으로 부호가 일치하였을 뿐 나머지 표본에서는 서로 상반된 부호를 보였다. 따라서 기업가치변수 토빈Q와 경영성과변수 ROI는 서로 유사변수 혹은 대용변수로 사용할 수 없는 별개의 변수인 것으로 나타났다.
This research is to analyze the influences of entertainment expenses and the cost over the entertainment expense limit on firm value and corporate performance and to verify the relationship between Tobin Q and ROI (Return of Investment) among 3400 listed firms from 2002 and 2009 based on the result of analysis. As dependent variables, there are Tobin Q as proxy variable representing firm value and ROI as proxy variable representing corporate performance. As independent variables, there are entertainment expense, the cost over the entertainment expense limit, firm size(gross asset), and market risk (Beta). Among the independent variables, firm size and market risk are used for control variables. The samples are divided into whole capital stocks, large capital stocks, medium capital stocks, and small capital stocks. The results of this research are as follows. Firstly, entertainment expenses and the cost over the entertainment expense limit have significant positive influences on Tobin Q except large capital stocks, and significant negative influences on ROI. Secondly, in the sign test, entertainment expenses and the cost over the entertainment expense limit show the same negative signs only in large capital stocks but the different signs in other samples. In consequence, this research supports that Tobin Q and ROI are not able to be used as proxy variables.
