필적감정은 과학수사의 여러 분야들 중 그 역사가 오래된 분야 중 하나이지만, 필적감정결과의 신빙성에 대한 논란은 끊이지 않고 발생하고 있다. 실무에서는 개인필적의 변화범위를 확인할 수 있는 자료가 충분하지 않은 감정 사건들이 많으며, 이러한 사실이 필적감정결과의 정확성에 대한 논란의 그 가장 큰 이유라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 첫째 ``김``자에 포함된 ``ㄱ``의 각도의 변화 범위를 확인하였다. 이러한 ``ㄱ``각도 변화 범위 확인은, 감정자료들 중 다른 사람들이 작성한 필적들을 제거할 수 있는, 합리적인 기준을 제공하여 준다. 둘째 필적의 세부적인 형태상의 특징들을 필적감정의 근거로 사용할 경우, 필적의 양이 충분하지 않은 상태에서 관찰되는 세부특징의 차이를 서로 다른 사람의 필적에서만 나타날 수 있는 차이로 섣불리 단정해서는 안 된다는 점을 확인하였다. 그것은 서로 반대되지 않는 두 가지 세부특징이 한 사람의 필적에서 나타날 수 있기 때문이다. 셋째 개인필적의 특징을 분류할 때, 각도와 형태 외에 필적의 기필부분과 종필부분, 꺾인 부분 등의 상호 좌표를 비교하는, 통계적 한글필적감정방법을 제시하였다.

Handwriting identification(HI) is one of the oldest forensic sciences but the reliability of HI is often disputed in the court. In reality, there are many cases which do not have enough handwriting samples to analyze variation range of an individual handwriting. This could be the main reason why the reliability of HI is questioned. In this study, we firstly examined the variation range of angle of ``ㄱ``(giyeok) in ``김``(Kim). The results of the examination can be used as reasonable standard to eliminate different person`s handwriting from questioned handwriting or sample handwriting. Secondly, we observed that we should not jump to conclusions in case of using sub-characteristics of HI as a basis of HI, the differences observed when there are not enough samples could not be treated as the ones due to non-identification. Because two sub-characteristics of handwriting which are compatible can be founded in same individual`s handwritings. Finally, in the classification of individual handwriting characteristics, this study suggests a statistical method of Hangul HI which compares the coordinate position of beginning, ending and bending strokes in Hangul handwriting in addition to the comparison of angle and feature.
