Defining the Academic Concept of Korean-Dance For Life and Its Vocational Prospect

Korean-Dance for life is a concept categorized under dance for life. Defining the meaning of this term has made little progress beyond a notion as a Korean dance, in particular, a traditional Korean dance based on its genre features. In this study, we researched and intended to define the meaning of Korean-Dance for life based on the principle idea of continuing education through analyzing existing literatures. The details of the subject of this study consist of the scope and values of Korean-Dance for life, prospect as a new academic theme and vocational prospect that is a pending issue in dance community in Korea. This study emphasizes the importance of the systematic researches and operation of such activities as developing programs, training leaders and establishing educational opportunities, and a series of processes that connect the results from such activities to wage systems in order to define more concretely the prospect of Korean-Dance for life in academic field as well as professional careers. There are still many things to be resolved for Korean-Dance for life to be accepted as a part of academic dance area, providing new vocational opportunities. Even so, a number of matters can be carried out by the dance community if the community can see it in the broader scope of society. For the sake of the future of dance community, it is necessary for the established dancers to fully realize the pending issues and present practical methods to ensure the development of Korean-Dance for life in a unified manner.
