본 연구는 우리나라 전통팽이 중 가장 대표적인 말팽이의 놀이 전개과정을 밝힘으로서 팽이놀이 지도를 하는 교사들에게 팽이놀이를 위한 세부적이고 구체적인 지침이 될 기초자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 경기도 소재의 한 유치원을 선정하여 참여관찰과 면담을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 유아들의 팽이활동 전개과정은 단순 탐색활동에서 점차 팽이의 개념과 지식을 구성해가며 전개되었다. 팽이가 바닥과 닿은 면에 대한 탐색, 팽이를 잘 돌리기 위한 탐색을 하였고 팽이채로 팽이의 몸통을 쳐야 돌아간다는 구성을 하였으며 유아들은 전개과정을 통해 팽이의 과학적 원리들을 경험하고 발견하게 되었다. 한편, 활동 전개과정 전반을 살펴보면, 팽이는 유아에게 강한 흥미를 유발하는 놀이활동이라는 점을 알 수 있었다. 말팽이 활동은 유아의 발달수준에 적합한 활동이며, 운동역학적·물리과학적·미학적 구성을 가능하게 하며 사회성, 인성발달을 위한 교육적 가치가 매우 높은 놀이라는 결론을 내릴 수 있었다.

This research aims to present preliminary data for further specific and detail guideline for children teacher teaching Korean traditional plays through Korean traditional spinning top-wooden Pangee. Traditional Korean Playing, wooden Pangee has significant implications for young children`s education in that it continually stimulates young Children`s physical movement and enhances their creativity. Moreover, Children could acquire knowledge of physical by direct and actual experience without any theological requirement. Thus, variety aspects of scientific concepts can be leant through hand-on experiences on playing traditional Korean spinning top. In conclusion, through this research, young children understood the principles of mathematics and sciences as active beings and more specific education program based on understanding varieties aspects of playing traditional Korean wooden spinning top was suggested.
