This paper examines the bicentenary commemoration of the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade in 2007 Britain. Until this year British responses to the slave trade and slavery might well be characterized as "historical amnesia." Yet 2007 has seen an unprecedented range of activities of commemoration of abolition of British slave trade. The television programmes, books, talks, exhibitions and films mark the extent of involvement in the legacy of slavery. The New Labour government has supported commemorating abolition focusing William Wilberforce. Toyin Agbetu of Pan-African organization Ligali protested this way of commemoration as "Wilberfest." The 2007 commemoration have been made possible, as the outcome of recognition politics in favor of African-Caribbean community. Yet the government has carefully avoided a public apology, only with "deep sorrow" comment by Tony Blair. The parliamentary exhibition "the British Slave Trade: Abolition, Parliament and People" shows the fact that white British abolitionist discourse is still strongly exist. The formation of social memory of black British and slavery is now ongoing in Britain.
