증후군성 난청은 다양한 유전자 이상으로 다른 장기의 문제와 함께 나타나므로 난청을 조기에 발견하고 청능재활을 하게 되면, 사회적응력을 극대화시켜 사회 구성원으로서 살아가는데 큰 도움을 줄 수 있다. 이 중 LEOPARD 증후군은 다발성 흑색사마귀, 심전도 이상, 두눈 먼거리증, 폐동맥판 협착증, 성기 이상, 성장 지연 및 난청 등을 증상으로 하는 세계적으로 드문 희귀질환이다. 본 연구에서는 LEOPARD 증후군 아동을 대상으로 인공와우이식 수술 후 6개월간의 청능재활 사례를 소개하면서 난청의 조기 발견 및 재활의 중요성에 대해서 다시 한 번 더 살펴보고자 하였다. 그 결과 아동은 어린 나이임에도 불구하고, 학습에 흥미가 높고 소리 수용에 적극적인 태도를 보임으로써 인공와우이식 수술 후 측정한 청력역치도 원활한 의사소통이 가능할 정도의 듣기 수준에 도달하였고, 청각 수행력 및 언어와 의사소통능력에 있어서도 검사에 따라 다소 차이가 나지만 수술 후 6개월에 이르러 꾸준한 향상을 확인할 수 있었다. 다만, 본 사례 연구의 경우 LEOPARD 증후군성 난청 아동 1명을 대상으로 인공와우이식 수술 후 6개월까지의 결과이므로 모든 LEOPARD 증후군성 난청아동과 다른 증후군성 아동들에게 일반화하기에는 한계점이 있다. 이에 추후 지속적인 재활교육을 통한 종단적인 연구가 계속 이어져야 할 것으로 사료된다.

Hearing loss (HL) is one of the most frequent clinical manifestations of patients who suffer with multi-systemic genetic disorders. HL in association with other physical stigmata is referred to as a syndromic form of HL. LEOPARD syndrome (LS) is one of the disorders with syndromic HL and it was first introduced in 1969 to describe the spotted appearance from lentiginosis. The main features of the syndrome are facial anomalies, distinct congenital heart defects, pectus deformities, hearing loss and growth retardation. The aim of this case review was to investigate auditory performance after cochlear implantation and the importance of auditory rehabilitation. The result of this case suggested that LEOPARD syndrome child`s auditory performance and communication skills had improved through cochlear implantation and aural rehabilitation. The average scores of auditory performance started to change steadily from the use of cochlear implant and continued over time for 6 months. The results of this study suggested that auditory rehabilitation and cochlear implantation for a child with LEOPARD syndrome would be effective and important. This is the first reported case of CI in a patient with LEOPARD in the aural rehabilitation.
