이 연구의 목적은 한국인 영어 발화에 대하여 한국인 발음 평가자의 평가 차이를 초래하는 변이성의 특징을 찾고자 하는 것이다. 한국인 화자 당 36개의 영어 문장에 대해서 19명의 한국인 발음 평가자가 평가한 자료에서 각 발화 문장 당 평균과 표준편차를 구하고 화자별 36개 의 문장을 표준편차의 크기 순서로 정렬하였다. 상위 7위까지 반복적으로 선택된 문장을 통해서 한국인 평가자는 첫째, 한국어 음소목록에 없는 음의 지각과 둘째, 삽입모음의 발생여부의 인지가 자의적인 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 평가자의 자의적 인지가 평가 결과의 상이성을 초래한다고 할 수 있다.

In this paper, we investigate the characteristics that cause inter-rater differences in evaluating the English pronunciation of Korean speakers. Each Korean speaker read 36 English sentences and 19 Korean raters evaluated the pronunciation proficiency. We calculated the means and standard deviations of the 19 grades for each sentence. Thirty six (36) standard deviations for each speaker were compared and the sentences were reordered in descending order according to the standard deviations. Some sentences were repeatedly ranked highly. The source of this rating difference does not appear to be random or arbitrary, but rather consistent and systematic, with the phones not existing in the Korean phonemic inventory, such as liquids and dental fricatives, found to be difficult to judge correctly. We also found that the epenthetic vowels were perceived arbitrarily.
