본 연구는 최근 해외에서 호텔 인턴쉽 프로그램에 참여하고 돌아온 학생들을 대상으로 한 요구 분석에 관한 것이다. 자료 수집을 위해 34명의 대학생과 36명의 국내 호텔 종사자들, 그리고 6명의 해외 호텔 매니저들이 연구 대상이었다. 대상자들 중에서 학생들과 국내 호텔 종사자들은 설문지와 그룹 면담에 참여했고 해외 호텔 매니저들은 설문지만 작성하였다. 연구 결과는 특수목적 영어 코스를 개발할 경우 읽기 및 쓰기 보다는 듣기와 말하기 기능을 더 많이 고려해야 한다는 것을 보여주었다. 획일적인 일반 영어 학습을 지양하고 특수한 전공에 알맞은, 학습자를 고려한 맞춤형 코스 개발을 위해서는 정확한 요구분석이 필요하다는 것을 시사해주는 것이다. 그러나 요구 분석 이외에 특수목적 영어 교사의 역할에 대한 중요성도 역시 고려해야 할 점이다.

This study focuses on analyzing needs of students who have participated in a hotel internship program abroad. Subjects were 34 college students, 36 domestic hotel employees, and 6 overseas hotel managers. The questionnaires were conducted to collect the data, and they were interviewed for more in-depth information. The results of this study showed that listening and speaking skills should be more considered than reading and writing for the hotel field. It implies that not uniform English education, but learner-centered education is an important point when an ESP course is developed. However, the question of the role of the ESP teacher is also a very important one.
