박봉술은 동편제 고장인 전라북도 구례에서 태어났으며, 부친 박만조(1875-1952)와 작은 형 박봉채(1906-1946)의 후원과 소리 지도로 판소리에 입문하였다. 본고의 고찰 결과, 박봉술창 <춘향가>에는 19세기부터 전승되어 온 고제 사설이 여러 대목 남아 있었고, 19세기에 활동한 8명창들의 더늠 대목도 잘 전승되어 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 박봉술창 <춘향가>가 사설 구성과 선율 면에서 동시대에 활동한 다른 창자들의 소릿조와 뚜렷이 차이나며 고제(古制)라고 평가받는 것은 바로 이러한 이유 때문이다. 박봉술창 <춘향가>의 계통과 관련하여 논란이 되었던 부분에 대해서는 정정렬제의 영향이 미미한 동편제이며, 김세종-장자백 계열이나 송흥록-송광록-송우룡-송만갑 계열이 아니라 송흥록-박만순-박만조로 이어지는 소릿조를 이어받은 것임이 밝혀졌다. 박봉술창 <춘향가>에 송흥록으로부터 전해지는 고제 동편제의 특징이 잘 남아 있을 수 있었던 이유는 지역 음악권에서만 고수로 활동하던 박만조와 그 소릿조를 이어받은 박봉술이 <춘향가> 공연활동을 하지 않았기 때문에 신조 중심으로 흘러간 시대적 흐름에 영향을 받지 않아서라고 생각된다. 박봉술창 <춘향가>는 판소리 음악문화의 격변기인 20세기를 거치면서도 시대적 흐름에 크게 영향 받지 않고 송흥록으로부터 이어지는 고제(古制) 동편제의 사설과 선율적 특징을 잘 보존하고 있다는 점에서 판소리사적으로 주목할 가치가 크다.

Pak Pong-sul 朴鳳述 was born at Kurye 求禮 county, the home of Tongp`yonje 東便制, and began p`ansori 판소리 with the support and teaching of his father, Pak Man-jo 박만조 (1875-1952) and his brother Pak Pong-ch`ae 박봉채 (1906-1946). The analysis of Pak`s Ch`unhyangga 春香歌 revealed that there are many parts of texts were similar to the old style of 19th century. Furthermore, the characteristics of the original melody of the eight famous master singer`s tonum 더늠 (personal styles) were remained very well. For this reason, there were many differences between Pak`s Ch`unhyangga and the p`ansori sung by other contemporary singers, in terms of composition of texts and melody. My analysis in this study found that Pak`s Ch`unhyangga was considered to be more heavily connected by Chong Chong-nyol 丁貞烈 or Chang Cha-baek 張子伯 than it actually was. Pak`s Ch`unhyangga, however, was p`ansori based on the sound of the Pak family, which had been passed down from Song Hung-nok 宋興祿 through Pak Man-sun 朴萬順 and Pak Man-jo 박만조. As the members of the Pak family didn`t perform actively during the first half of the 20th century, Pak`s Ch`unhyangga still had many aspects of Tongp`yonje in accordance with old styles. Pak`s Ch`unhyangga is worth giving attention in the history of p`ansori, in that it has kept the characteristics of old style Tongp`yonje.
