본 논문은 세계화 차원에서 비판적 문명학을 정식화하기 위해 기획된 것이다. 세계화는 일련의 서구의 세계지배전략인 문명화, 근대화와 함께 서구보편주의에 착근되어 있다. 서구제국주의와 연계된 세계화의 실체를 파악하고자 한다면 무엇보다도 문명사적 시각에서 세계화의 원초적 동인인 ``자본주의적 근대성``의 역사 궤적을 추적해야 한다. 그 연구의 수행은 신자유주의적 세계화의 제반 개념군에 대한 비판과 함께 세계 체제의 기원과 해독을 읽어내고 논박하는 것이다. 그럼으로써 이로부터 유전된 현대 문명담론의 여러 부정적 함의들을 읽어내고 그 역사 역기능적인 요소들을 제거시킬 수가 있다. 이런 의미에서 본 논고는 선행적으로 ``문명``과 관련된 강권 이데올로기로서의 서구보편주의의 역사적 유래와 그 전개 양상을 분석하고 그 본질을 규명하고자 했다. 나아가 서구 중심적 세계 이해와 관련된 서구 제국주의의 여러 형태와 논거의 일단을 논파하고 그 문명론적 대안을 제시함으로써 비판적 현대 문명학 건립의 초석을 마련하고자 했다.

This study aims to formalize the critical civilizational studies on globalization dimension. The globalization is taken root in the Western universalism in addition to civilizing process, modernization as series of Western World domination strategy. In order to grasp the substance to globalization connected with Western imperialism, above all, the trace of history of ``capitalist modernity`` as primitive motive of globalization should be pursued in the view of the history of the civilization. Achieving the study is to read and refute the origin & decipher of the world system with criticism about all concepts group of neoliberal globalization. So that, the various negative implications of the inherited modern discourses of civilization can be read and the dysfunctional factors of the history can be removed. In this sense, this study aims to analyze the historical origin of Western universalism as authority ideology related to ``civilization`` in the preceding and to clarify the nature. Furthermore, it aims to confute the various forms of Western imperialism and a pause of argument related to the Western-centric understanding of the world and to prepare the cornerstones of construction of critical modern civilizational studies by presenting the civilization theoretical alternatives.
