이 글은 <임씨삼대록>에 보이는 여성수난담을 고찰하고, 그것을 여타의 삼대록계 대하소설과 비교하기 위해 마련되었다. <임씨삼대록>에서 여성인물은 표면적으로는 남편과 첩에 의해 수난을 당하지만 근본적으로는 그 수난은 이미 운명적으로 예정된 것이었다. 이러한 인식은 작품에서 내내 견지된다. 이는 특히 여성주동인물의 육체적 수난이 빈번히 등장하지만, 그것이 그녀에게 치명적인 고통을 주지 않는 대신 수난이 곧 있을 것이라는 분위기를 조성하는 기능을 하는 데서 잘 드러나 있다. 여성인물은 초월적 인물에 의해 구조되어 초월적 공간에서 지내며 수련하는데 이러한 점은 통과의례적 모습을 구현한 것이다. 수난의 해결은 역시 예정된 운명에 따라 초월적으로 해결되며 해결의 주체는 초월적 인물 혹은 그 인물에게서 초월적 능력을 습득한 여성주동인물 자신이다. 여성수난담을 위주로 볼 때 초월과 운명의 서사로 명명할 수 있는 <임씨삼대록>에서 이러한 서사가 주는 효과는 기존의 질서를 옹호하면서도 한편으로는 흥미를 드러낸다는 데 있다. 이 점은 모순된 것처럼 보이지만 두 가지가 절묘하게 결합되어 있어 작품의 미감을 한껏 제고하고 있는데, 이 점이 여타 삼대록계 대하소설과 차이가 나는 <임씨삼대록>의 특징이라 할 수 있다.

This thesis is aimed at considering the story of female sufferings in LimSsiSamdaerok and comparing it with other epic novels related with samdaerok. Women in LimSsiSamdaerok, superficially, are suffered from their husbands and concubines but basically they were already supposed to be suffered by destiny. This awareness is shown throughout the work. Physical sufferings are often shown but the heroine doesn`t go through fatal sufferings. Instead, the atmosphere that she will be faced with sufferings go is shown well. The female character is saved by transcendent character and lives in a transcendent place training herself, which realizes thing like a rite of passage. Sufferings are transcendently solved by a arranged fate and the main agent who solves the sufferings is a transcendental character or the heroine herself who is given transcendental power by him or her. When the story of female sufferings is focused, the effect of the description in LimSsiSamdaerok, which can be called narrative of fate and transcendence, lies in it protects the existing order while it shows interest. This seems to be contradictory but the two things are exquisitely connected, so it enhances a sense of beauty of the work.
