범아시아주의에 대한 부정적 평가와 달리 19세기 말에서 20세기 초에 동북아 지역에는 평화지향적인 범아시아주의가 존재했다. 한국 안중근의 ``동양평화사상``, 일본 초기 급진적 자유민권론자들의 ``아시아지역평화사상``, 러시아 동방주의자들의 ``동방주의``, 중국 손문의 ``대아주주의``는 자발성과 수평적 연대에 기초하여 동북아 지역의 평화와 공동번영을 지향한 범아시아주의로 평가할 수 있다. 이들 사상의 핵심내용을 살펴보면, 아시아라는 지리적 근접성과 문화적 연대감을 바탕으로 정치군사적으로는 평화주의적 정신에 입각하여 국가 사이의 전쟁을 반대하고, 영토불가침, 내정불간섭, 동권, 주권존중, 자주독립에 대한 원칙을 강조하였다. 나아가 경제적 측면에서도 동북아 물류의 활성화를 비롯한 경제협력 등을 주장함으로써 동북아 공영의 실현을 주장했다. 이처럼 수평적 연대와 평화주의에 근거해 있던 범아시아주의는 당시 제국주의적 시대상황을 염두에 둘 때, 분명히 진보적인 사상이었음에 틀림이 없다. 물론 동북아 지역의 평화지향적 범아시아주의가 내용적으로 한계성을 지니고 있었던 사실은 부인할 수 없다. 그럼에도 불구하고 동북아 지역의 평화적 범아시아주의는 오늘날 지역의 갈등을 해소하는 데 하나의 이념적 기초로 활용할 수 있겠다. 지역민의 차원에서는 국가 사이의 수평적 연대와 다자간 협력을 강조한 이 사상을 계승, 발전시켜 상호간의 연대의식을 강화시켜 나가야 함은 물론 정부적 차원에서도 이러한 공통된 이념을 바탕으로 하여 지역다자협력체제가 구축될 수 있도록 보다 적극적인 외교정책을 추진해야 할 것이다.
Unlike some negative evaluations, there were peace-oriented Pan-Asianisms, with some variations, in the Northeast Asia during the late 19th and early 20th century. Those were Korean Ahn Jung Keun`s Oriental Peace, Japanese early radical liberals` Asian Peace, Russian Easternists` Easternism, and Chinese Sun Wen`s Great Asianism. They were all Pan-Asianisms seeking for regional peace and prosperity based on spontaneity and horizontal solidarity. Based on geographical proximity and cultural solidarity of the Asia, their thoughts emphasized, in the politico-military sense, principles such as anti-war pacifism, territorial non-aggression, equal rights among governments, and respect for national sovereignty. Furthermore, they argued for, in the economic aspect, realizing regional co-prosperity through cooperation and trade revitalization, all of which proves they were progressive ideas especially in the imperialist era. Those Pan-Asianisms had their own limits, although they can be used as an ideological foundation to resolve various conflicts the region faces today. Residents in the region, on the one hand, need to develop those thoughts that emphasized cross-national horizontal solidarity and multilateral cooperation. On the other hand, governments will have to push active foreign policies to establish a regional multilateral cooperation system based on those common ideas and ideologies.
