본 연구는 글로벌 시대를 맞이하여 관광산업의 하나인 컨벤션 산업에서 중요한 역할을 담당하고 있는, 미팅플래너가 갖춰야 할 역량과 직업 선택 동기에 대한 연구를 수행하여 시사점을 제공하려고 하였다. 연구결과를 보면, 우선, 미팅플래너가 갖춰야 할 역량으로 9가지의 요인(‘심신관리능력’, ‘상황적응능력‘, ‘기획력’, ‘커뮤니케이션기술’, ‘협상력’, ‘리더십 및 대인관계’, ‘업무추진능력’, ‘전문지식’, ‘외국어실력’)이 확인되었다. 또한 이러한 역량 소양의 중요도에 관하여 전공, 직급, 근무기간에 따라 집단 별 인식의 차이가 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 다음으로 미팅플래너라는 직업을 선택하게 된 동기를 살펴본 결과, ‘물질적 보상’, ‘자아실현 추구’, ‘직업적 혜택’, ‘자기계발 도모’ 로 4개의 요인이 도출되었다. 물질적 보상을 제외하고는 입사 전 동기 부여 정도에 비해 현재 만족도는 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 이외에도 성별, 전공 여부, 직급에 따라 동기 인식에 대한 정도가 다른 것으로 분석되었다. 특히 여성이 남성에 비해 ‘자아실현 추구’를 더욱 높게 인지하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 미팅플래너가 갖춰야 할 역량과 직업선택의 동기에 관한 연구결과는 현재 직업선택에 마음을 두고 있는 미래 지망생과 이들을 채용해야 하는 관련기업에서 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다. 또한 기업체에서는 미팅플래너의 전문성을 중시하여 지속적인 교육과 훈련을 담당할 수 있는 전담부서가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

This study plans to provide a viewpoint on the competencies and career selecting motivations of a meeting planner, who plays an important role in the convention part of the tourism industry in today`s global era. 9 causes for the competencies of a meeting planner (``the ability to manage mind and body``, ``the ability to adapt to situation``, planning ability``, ``communication skills``, ``negotiating skills``, ``people skills and leadership``, ``the ability to push ahead``, ``professional knowledge``, ``second language skills) were identified. Also, there were differences in the perception of each cause`s importance according to major, position and period of work. Looking at the motivations for making the choice to work as a meeting planner, there were 4 causes, ``material compensation``, ``self-realization``, ``professional benefits``, ``self-development``. Other than material compensation, current satisfaction levels were lower compared to the motivational levels provided before entry to the company. Other than that, sex, major, job positions affected the perception on motivation. Women, especially, perceived ``self-realization needs`` higher than men. Findings from this study can be used as a basic data to industry practitioners who have to hire future applicants who are considering job positions, about the competencies and job selection motivation required as a meeting planner.
