본 연구는 초등학생이 지각한 담임교사의 학급통제성이 아동의 공격성에 미치는 영향을 알아보고, 초등학교 담임교사의 학급통제성과 아동의 공격성간의 관계에서 자아존중감의 매개효과를 검증해 봄으로써 학급통제력에 대한 교사들의 이해와 아동지도에 도움을 줄 수 있는 방법을 모색하고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 이에 인천광역시 소재의 초등학교에 재학중인 5, 6학년 학생 372명을 대상으로 자료를 수집하였으며 수집된 자료는 SPSS WIN 15.0과 AMOS 7.0에 의해서 처리하였다. 주요 변인들간의 상관관계를 알아보았고 학급통제성과 공격성을 매개하는 자아존중감의 매개효과에 관한 모형을 검증하기 위하여 구조방정식 모형검증을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 초등학교 담임교사의 학급통제성이 높을수록 아동의 공격성이 높다는 결과를 보였다. 특히 공격성의 하위변인들 중 신체적 공격성, 간접적 공격성, 언어적 공격성, 부정성과는 정적 상관을 보였으나 흥분성과는 상관이 없었다. 둘째, 초등학교 담임교사의 학급통제성이 높을수록 아동의 자아존중감이 낮은 부적상관이 나타났다. 셋째, 아동의 자아존중감이 높을수록 아동의 공격성이 낮은 부적상관이 나타났다. 넷째, 아동의 자아존중감의 매개변인으로서의 역할은 담임교사의 학급통제성과 아동의 공격성간의 관계를 부분 매개한 것을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과들을 토대로 본 연구의 시사점과 제한점 그리고 앞으로의 연구방향에 대한 시사점들을 언급하였다.
The purpose of this study was to examine teacher`s classroom control perceived by school children on their aggression and the mediating effect of children`s self-esteem on the relationship between teacher`s classroom control and their aggression to determine how to give support to teachers facing difficulties because of poor skill in classroom control. The subjects in this study were 372 fifth and sixth graders at an elementary school located in the city of Incheon. The data was processed by SPSS WIN 15.0 and AMOS 7.0. The findings of the study were as follows: First, the students who felt there were heavy aggression suffered from teacher`s degree of classroom control. Especially there was a positive correlation with physical aggression, indirect aggression, verbal aggression, and negativism. But irritability was not considered as a factor. Second, there was a negative correlation between teacher`s degree of classroom control and self-esteem. Third, there was a negative correlation between self-esteem of children and their aggression. Forth, self-esteem had a partial mediating effect on the process that teacher`s degree of classroom control affected their aggression. If teachers not only look for the effective way of lowering the degree of control and but also make efforts for raising children`s self-esteem; then, children`s aggression will decrease.
