본 연구는 청소년의 가정폭력 경험을 부모 간 폭력목격경험과 부모로부터의 직접적인 폭력경험으로 나누어 청소년의 정신건강에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고, 자신에 대한 가치 평가를 포함하는 동시에 행동과 적응을 결정하는 예측요인인 자아개념의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 이를 위해 한국청소년정책연구원 중등 5차년도 패널(2007년)을 활용하였다. 신체폭력만 보더라도, 한 번이라도 부모 간 신체폭력을 목격한 적이 있는 경우가 49.3%였고, 한 번이라도 부모로부터 심하게 맞은 적이 있는 경우도 38.5%에 이르렀다. 주요 분석결과를 보면, 첫째, 가정폭력의 두 가지 유형 모두 청소년의 정신건강에 유의미한 영향을 끼쳤다. 둘째, 가정폭력의 두 가지 유형 모두 청소년의 자아개념에 부정적인 영향을 주었다. 셋째, 청소년의 자아개념은 청소년의 정신건강에 유의미한 영향을 끼쳤다. 넷째, 자아개념의 매개효과를 검증한 결과, 가정폭력의 두 가지 유형 모두에서 자아개념의 부분매개효과를 확인할 수 있었다. 즉, 두 가지 형태의 가정폭력이 청소년의 정신건강에 직접적으로 영향을 미치기도 하지만 자아개념을 매개로 하여 간접적인 영향을 미친다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구결과를 바탕으로 가정폭력에 개입하기 위한 실천적 제언을 제시하였다.

This study examined the effects of adolescents` experiences of domestic violence on their mental health and mediating effects of adolescents` self-concept. In this study the domestic violence experiences was divided into two. One was witnessing experience of violence between their parents and another was experience of child abuse from their parents. The fifth panel (2007) for middle school of the National Youth Policy Institute was used for this study. Results only on physical violence reported a percentage of 49.3% for those who witnessed physical violence between parents at least once, and 38.5% even experienced serious beating from their parents. The following are main analysis results. First, both types of domestic violence gave a significant influence on the mental health of adolescents. Second, both domestic violence types negatively affected the self-concept of adolescents. Third, the adolescents` self-concept had a significant influence on their mental health. Fourth, verification results of mediating effects of self-concept confirmed a partial mediating effect of self-concept in both domestic violence types. The two types of domestic violence directly affected the adolescents` mental health, but also gave indirect influence mediated by their self-concept. This study presents practical suggestions for intervening in domestic violence based on the results.
