This study aims to examine how Sogdian had embraced Chinese funerary culture to maintain their own view of afterlife. Some Scholars mention that the immigrated tribe`s funeral culture and view of the funeral were `sinicized`. According to them, Sogdian tombs are also an example that the immigrated tribe embraced China`s view of the funeral after discarding their own funeral culture. However, it is somewhat unreasonable to regard all tombs of immigrated tribes in China as the result of `Sincization`. Based on the understandings of each national culture and a thorough analysis of images, the process of a compromise between the two elements should be examines from more diverse angles. This study minutely analyzes the images appeared in the Sogdian tombs, based on the classification of themes, the images` concrete meaning, the number of appearance, and the arrangement of images. As the result of the analyzation, Sogdian represent their traditional view of the world after death through China`s funerary style, and this fact disproves the assertion that Sogdian tombs are a mere parte art in the process of `Sinicization`. Meanwhile, the images from Sogdian tombs are also shown in pictorial stones excavated in Qingzhou, Shandong, which are considered to be of Chinese or Xianbei tribe. This fact reflects that Sogdian art influenced Chinese art in the sixth century, and implies the multi-directional nature of artistic interaction and change in this period.
