본고는 申最의 『皇明二大家文抄』를 매개로 王世貞과 茅坤의 교유와 그 공통적 지향점을 살펴본 것이다. 왕세정과 모곤은 그간 後七子와 唐宋派의 일원으로 대립적인 문학관을 가진 것으로만 이해되어 왔고, 신최는 『二大家文抄』라는 選集을 펴냄으로써 이 둘로 대표되는 明代의 당송파와 전후칠자의 대립을 해소하려고 했던 것으로 이해되어 왔다. 하지만, 신최가 편한 『二大家文抄』에 수록된 모곤과 왕세정의 편지에는 두 사람의 교유를 보여주는 내용이 있고, 이와 관련된 여타의 자료를 종합할 때 두 사람의 교유와 문학적 공감의 폭이 넓고 깊었음을 확인할 수 있다. 茅·王 두 사람은 古詩와 近體詩, 秦漢과 唐宋文을 선호하며 대립했던 李夢陽·唐順之 등 선배 세대들의 편협한 관점을 극복하고, 모든 시대의 가장 훌륭한 작가와 작품을 흡수한 위에서 자기만의 독자적인 문학을 수립하려 했다는 점에서 일치된 문학관을 가지고 있었다. 『二大家文抄』에 선별된 茅·王 두 사람의 작품과 신최의 서문을 보건대, 신최는 각 시대 문학의 다양하고도 훌륭한 측면을 모두 흡수한 위에서 자기만의 문학을 수립하려했던 두 사람의 공감과 교류의 지점을 포착하고 있었고, 이를 선집에 반영해 놓고 있었다. 본고는 신최의 선집에 수록된 茅·王 두 사람의 작품을 직접 독해함으로써, 秦漢/唐宋文 중 어느 한 쪽만을 높이는 전범상의 대립이 이미 모곤과 왕세정 단계에서 해소되고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

This essay is to research friendship between Wang Shi Zhen 王世貞and Mao Kun 茅坤, and their common literary direction through The Selected Works of Literary of Two Masters in Ming Dynasty 『皇明二大家文抄』 edited by Shin Choi 申最 in Chosun 朝鮮. Mao Kun and Wang Shi Zhen have been marked down as literary adversaries who each succeeded to Tang Song Pai 唐宋派 and Qian Hou Qi Zi 前後七子. And Shin Choi has been understood that had edited The Selected Works of Two Masters to defuse their confrontation. But review a letter written by each of them in The Selected Works of Mao·Wang 茅·王 and other relevant documents, we can easily know that friendship and sympathy between two masters became deeper and wider as time passed. Both Mao and Wang were free from a narrow viewpoint of Lee Meng Yang 李夢陽·Tang Sun Zhi 唐順之 who pursued one of ancient style poetry 古詩 and the Tang Dynasty modern style poetry 近體詩, prefered one of Qin·Han 秦漢 dynasty`s work and Tang·Song 唐宋 dynasty`s work. After fully absorbed the best writers and works across the ages, they intended to set up his own literary world. Shin Choi deeply understood both Wang Shi Zhen 王世貞 and Mao Kun 茅坤`s work and their common literary aim, so he could reflect it through a preface and selecting a each pieces in The Selected Works of Literary of Two Masters in Ming Dynasty 『皇明二大家文抄』.
