본 연구는 외상을 경험한 탈북청소년들이 남한사회에 정착하면서 겪게 되는 심리사회적 성장과정을 이해하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 남한에 정착한 지 7년 이상 된 20세~24세의 탈북청소년 7명을 심층면접을 하였고, van Manen(1990)의 현상학적 방법에 따라 해석하였다. 연구 결과는 체험된 신체성, 체험된 공간성, 체험된 시간성, 체험된 관계성의 범주에서 해석되었고 논의되었다. 그 결과, 연구참여자들은 남한에서 `어린 아이의 몸, 혼란스러운 몸, 수용하는 몸, 어른이 되어가는 몸(신체성)`으로 7년 이상 살아왔고, 그 시간적 경험을 `숨 가쁜 시간, 전환기, 과거 그림자를 보듬는 고통의 시간, 성숙의 시간(시간성)`으로 의미를 부여하고 있었다. 동시에 연구참여자들은 남한이라는 공간을 `새로운 삶의 터전, 낯선 세상, 익숙해진 세상, 도약하는 공간(공간성)`으로 여기며, 남한사회에 뿌리내리기 위해 `다리를 만들고, 때론 갈등을 느끼고, 수용하며, 관계 확장(관계성)`을 위해 노력하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이처럼 본 연구 결과는 남한에서 7년 이상 거주하면서 20대 대학생으로 성장한 연구 참여자들만의 독특한 체험적 의미를 보여준다. 본 연구에서는 탈북청소년들이 과거 외상 및 남한에서 경험하는 위기 사건들을 잘 극복할 수 있도록 돕고, 이들이 남한사회에 주류(main stream)로 건강하게 뿌리내릴 수 있도록 경제적 지원, 교육적 지원, 정책적 지원, 심리사회적 지지 등이 필요하다는 점을 제언하고 있다.

This research is to investigate whether North Korean refugee adolescents in South Korea, who experienced trauma during escaping North Korea, are undergoing what kind of psychological changes when they settled down in South Korea. In this research, 7 college students of 20~24 year-old escaped from North Korea were selected for research participants who were in adolescence when they escaped from North Korea and now too. The data were collected by one-to-one in-depth interviews. Researcher prospected the participants` experienced Posttraumatic Growth into 4 existential categories(experienced space, experienced body, experienced time, experienced relation) according to the research method of van Manen(1990). As a result of research, the unique heuristic meaning of participants who grew up to the age of 20`s who lived in South Korea over 7 years was showed. The point that the participants became college students in South Korea can be seen that they are belong to the mainstream of South Korean society.
