이 논문은 성경적 상담의 대표적인 학자라고 할 수 있는 Jay E. Adams와 Lawrence J.Crabb의 입장에 대해서 정 정숙교수의 기독교 상담에 대한 이해가 서로 어떻게 다른지를 분석하고 있다. 그런 다음 정 교수의 상담모델을 소개하고, 이 모델의 특징이 무엇인지 정리하였다. 상담에 대한 정 교수의 강조점은 사람을 변화시켜 하나님의 영광을 위하여 살게 하기 위한 종합학문이라는 것이다. 즉 상담을 단지 피상담자의 문제해결로만 그치는 것이 아니라 상담의 과정과 결과를 통하여, 피상담자로 하여금 하나님 중심의 삶으로 변화시키는 것을 상담의 궁극적인 목적으로 강조하였다. 정 교수의 기독교 상담은 상담실에 가져온 피상담자의 단지 어떤 하나의 문제에 대한 해결 방식의 상담을 뛰어넘어, 인생의 총체적 의미에 대한 신앙적. 신학적 답변이라고 할 수 있다.

This thesis is an analysis based on the opinions of the foremost scholars in biblical counseling Jay E. Adams & Lawrence J. Crabb and how they vary from Prof. Chung`s understanding of Christian Counseling. After this, the thesis will introduce Prof. Chung`s counseling model, and summarize the characteristics. Prof. Chung`s key point on counseling is a general study based on changing people`s lives so that they live to glorify God. Therefore, counseling does not just purpose at solving the counselee`s a problem. Through the counseling process and result, the counselee is able to change and live a theocentric life which exemplifies the positive aspects of counseling. Prof. Chung`s christian counseling does not merely try to analyze and solve one of the counselee`s a problem; it provides a spiritual and theological answer to the general meaning of life.
