This study deals with the analysis on the patent trend of chitosan and glucosamine. These days, functional materials based on natural substance are in the limelight mainly due to the safety of these materials. Representative material is the polysaccharide, especially chitosan and glucosamine. Regarding chitosan, the number of patent application was increasing from the beginning of 1990`s and especially the application numbers of Korea are superior to those of other countries. On the other hand, the number of patent application was increasing since the middle of 1990`s in case of glucosamine.
