이 글은 영조대 무신란 이후 경상감사들이 행했던 제반 수습책을 검토한 글이다. 영남 지역은 17세기 후반 이래 중앙 정치에 진출이 차단되면서, 이에 따른 불만들이 고조되었다. 그리고 이를 간파한 중앙 조정에서는 노론과 소론 공히 調用論을 내세우며 이들을 자파세력으로 확보하고자 하였다. 이런 중에 무신란이 발발함으로써 영남 지역은 예의주시되었고, 무신란 진압후에는 `憂嶺南說`이 제기되며 이후에도 여전히 주목받았다. 무신란 이후 처음으로 경상 감사에 제수된 朴文秀는 지역내 인사의 搜訪을 비롯해 중앙 정부의 뜻을 효유하여 민심의 안정에 주력하였다. 그리고 한편으로는 `以嶺南治嶺南`이라는 영남 통치의 원칙을 제시하였다. 이 원칙은 趙顯命이 언급한 바와 같이 영남 지역은 다른 지역과 다르므로 위세나 위령 등으로 통치할 수가 없으며 그보다는 향촌내 長者를 통한 통치 방식이 필요함을 역설한 것이었다. 이는 달리 표현하면 영남은 영남인의 손에 맡겨야지 조정에서 개입할 필요는 없다는 것이었다. 이 점은 또한 노론들의 영남 공략을 차단하기 위한 것이기도 하였다. 이밖에 교학기구의 정비를 통해 `鄒魯之鄕`을 복원하고자 하였다. 조현명의 경우 養士節目을 제정, 이것이 조정에서 勸學節目으로 반포되었다. 박문수나 조현명 등 소론계열 내지 탕평파가 주로 관 주도의 향촌 교육 정비에 주력한 반면 노론계열의 경우는 서원에 주목, 이를 통해 절의를 선양하고자 하였으며 나아가 해당 지역에 자파 세력을 扶植시키려고 하였다. 이밖에도 경상감사들은 <平嶺南碑>나 <영해명륜당중수기>, <곽망우모의록발>의 작성에서 보는 바와 같이 무신란을 상징하는 기념물 혹은 역사적인 기록을 통해서 민심의 순화를 도모하였다.

While Bakmunsu or Johyeonmyeong etc. Sonon order and Tangpyeongpa (蕩平派) makes efforts in country education maintenance of government office leading mainly, Nonon order`s occasion tried to implant influence that wished to observe in lecture-hall , enhance integrity through this and goes forward and follows suit to oneself in relevant area. Beside, Kyongsang Province governors planned refinement of popular feelings through souvenir or historic recording that symbolize Musinnan as governors see in creat.
