수많은 한국 사회학자들은 `우리만의 자생적인 이론적 전통과 방법론`의 정립을 가로막아온 학문의 대외종속성을 강력하게 비판해 왔고, 엄격한 아카데미즘을 바탕으로 한 지적 탈식민화를 지상과제로 천명해 왔다. 하지만 대다수의 비판과 대안은 `제도화된 분과학문으로서의 사회학`에 걸맞은 엄격한 이론적 분석틀과 경험적 자료에 근거하지 못했기 때문에 민족주의적 열정을 토로하거나 연구자 개인의 각성을 촉구하는 데 그치는 경우가 많았고, 따라서 매우 `비사회학적`이었다. 이런 문제의식을 바탕으로, 먼저 이 논문은 지난 40년간의 자기성찰 논의들을 비판적으로 분석하고 자기성찰 논의들의 비사회학적 특성이 구체적으로 어떤 것인지 밝힐 것이다. 다음으로 이 논문은 이러한 비사회학적 한계를 극복하기 위해, 피에르 부르디외(Pierre Bourdieu)의 `장이론`(field theory)을 토대로 한국 사회학 장의 낮은 자율성과 한국 사회학자들의 역할 정체성 혼란이 대외종속성을 극복하는 데 가장 큰 장애물임과 동시에 1990년대 이후 사회학의 장기불황을 초래한 요인이라고 주장할 것이다. 마지막으로 이 논문은 설문조사결과를 근거로 낮은 자율성과 역할 정체성 혼란의 구체적인 경험적 내용을 제시할 것이다.

Many Korean sociologists have severely criticised academic dependency that have prevented from making original theoretical traditions and research methodologies labelled `Korea`, and enthusiastically declared intellectual de-colonization based on rigorous academism. But having lacked rigorous theoretical frameworks and empirical materials, their criticisms and alternatives have been driven by nationalist resentments and called on the researchers` individual self-awareness, hence very "asociological". Firstly, this paper critically analyses Korean sociologists` self-reflections made since 1970`s up to the present. And then, overcoming the limits of "asociological self-reflections, this paper argues that, applying Pierre Bourdieu`s `field theory`, the low autonomy of Korean sociology field and Korean sociologists` role-identity confusion is one of the most important elements which have brought about Korean sociology`s academic dependency and long-term stagnation of Korean sociology since 1990`s. Lastly, based on the survey research, this paper shows the empirical substances of low autonomy and role-identity confusion.
