This study was focused on the investigation of most efficient analysis methods for quantitative analysis of Pb and Cd. Generally, the qualitative analysis of Pb and Cd was carried by ICP-AES and has some problem by interfering elements, like Al, Fe, Ni, Ti etc. Therefore, this study was tried to perform the accurate measurement of trace Pb and Cd ion in paper materials without interfering problem by organic solvent extraction using dithizone-chloroform. The extraction conditions of Pb and Cd were pH 12, 0.10% dithizone-chloroform, 5 W/V% KCN, 10 W/V% hydroxylammonium chloride and 10 W/V% diammonium hydrogen citrate as sub-chelate aids, and 0.2 M HCl as back-extraction acid. The extraction efficiency of Pb concentration was 89% and Cd concentration 85%. From these extraction conditions, removal efficiency of interfering elements was finally reached to above 90%.
