최근 그림책 가운데는 그림이 곁들여진 스토리북이라는 일반적인 통념을 넘어서 서사 방식에 있어 독창적인 시도를 실험한 사례가 적지 않게 발견되어진다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 사례에 적용된 서사 방법의 분석을 통해 서사 이론을 도출하고 그를 바탕으로 그림책의 잠재성을 계발하고 가능성을 확장할 수 있는 창작의 가이드라인의 도출을 시도하였다. 방법적으로는 1) 근거이론 방법론을 적용하여 개별 사례에 대한 주관적 기술문을 수집하여 핵심 단어를 추출하고 2) 핵심 단어로부터 도출된 핵심 개념들을 가지고 가설을 제안한 후 이를 사례에 대입하여 수정, 검증하는 가추적 방법으로 순환적, 접근적 방법을 사용하여 이론을 도출하였다. 3) 정리 방법은 KJ법을 원용한 시각적 도식화 방법을 사용하여 서사이론개념도를 구축하였다. 4) 최종단계에서 도출된 최종 도식을 서술적 방식으로 변환하여 창작의 주요 이론으로 정리, 재구성함으로써 그림책 창작의 가이드라인으로 제시하였다.

It is not difficult to find picture book examples of which narrative is inventive and which go beyond conventional notion of picture book as a storytelling book accompanied with pictures. The aim of this study is to draw narrative theories of picture books by the analysis of the picture books with inventive narratives and also to deduct guidelines of the creation of picture books to expand the possibility of which as a media form. The methodologies are as follows: 1) deduction of core words based on collected descriptions on narratives of each example by the expert of picture book creation applying grounded theory methodology 2) developing theories through abductive methodology by suggesting assumptions based on core concepts drawn from core words and by testing the validity of the assumption and revising it through the application test to the examples 3) creation of concept diagram of narratives by integrating of the theories using KJ method and schematizing the concepts 4) deduction and suggestion of guidelines by transforming the finalized diagram into descriptive statements.
