논문 목적은 칼빈의 성경 해석 방법을 사용하여 창세기 18-20장을 해석하여 본문의 역사와 교회의 맥락에서 그 기능을 고찰하는 것이다. 칼빈은 성경 해석에 있어서 `맥락`(context)을 매우 중요시 했다. 필자는 칼빈이 주목한 `문맥`에 주목하여 창세기 18-19장과 20장이 한 본문으로 연구되지 않고 두 본문으로서 각기 다른 방면에서 연구된 문제를 해결하려고 했다. 문학적 전략상 창세기 18:16-33은 서론적으로 문제를 제기하고 창세기 19장과 20장은 그 문제를 해결한다. 창세기 18:18에서 제기된 모든 족속이 아브라 함을 통하여 복을 받게 된다는 약속은 창세기 19장과 20장에서 롯의 구원과 아비멜렉이 구출되는 이야기에서 해결된다. 또한 창세기 18:22b-33에서 제기된 하나님의 정의 문제는 창세기 19장 소돔의 심판과 롯의 구원과 창세기 20장에서 사라와 아비멜렉의 구원과 아브라함에 대한 간접적 책망을 통해서 이루어진다. 창세기 18:20-22에서 제기된 소돔의 죄는 창세기 19장에서 그들의 죄가 집단적이며 동성애적이며 폭력적인 죄임을 폭로함으로 해결된다. 결과적으로 창세기 19장과 20장은 하나님의 공의와 정의가 무엇인지를 독자들에게 말한다. 필자는 창세기 18:16-20:18의 역사적 맥락이 출애굽 시대라고 주장했다. 또한 창세기 18:16-20:18은 출애굽 독자와 현대 교회의 독자들에게 세가지 중요한 기능을 한다고 보았다. 첫째, 창세기 18:16-20:18은 언약 백성의 정체성과 사명을 일깨운다. 둘째, 창세기 18:16-20:18은 언약 백성이 하나님 앞에서 취할 태도에 대해 교훈한다. 셋째, 창세기 18:16-20:18은 모든 민족 가운데서 언약백성의 위치를 규정해 준다. 그러므로 창세기 18:16-20:18은 두 본문이 아니라 하나의 본문이며 그것은 아브라함의 후손으로서 교회의 궁극적인 사명을 일깨운다. 즉 그것은 교회의 지향점은 하나님의 공의와 정의를 행하는 것이다.

The aim of this article is to interpret the Genesis 18:16-20:18 using the Calvin`s method of biblical interpretation. Calvin considered seriously the `context` in biblical interpretation. The contexts are three dimensions. One is literary context, another is historical context, and last one is context of church. I tried to solve a difficulty of Genesis 18-19 and 20. All the while, these texts did not deal with together but deal with two parts. Genesis 18-19 studied to research about a nature of in Sodom. Also these texts studied as one part of the triadic story of Lot (Gen 13:1-18, 14:1-24, 18:1-19:38). Genesis 20 studied as one part of the triadic story of wife as sister (Gen 12:10-20, 20:1-18, 26:1-17). But I studied as one text but two texts by using the principle of literary context. Genesis 18:16-20:18 deal with God`s righteousness and Justice as one text. In the literary strategy, Genesis 18:16-33 proposed the problem of God`s Justice and the answer was gave us in Genesis 19 and 20. First, the Promise that all the families of the earth shall be blessed in Abraham achieved as deliverance of Lot and Abimelech through the role of Abraham in the Genesis 19 and 20. Second, The problem of God`s Justice proposed in Genesis 18:22b-33 achieved through the story of judgment of Sodom and deliverance of Lot in Genesis 19 and deliverance of Sarah and Abimelech in Genesis 20. Third, the problem of sin in Sodom proposed in Genesis 18:20-22 founded as collective and homosexuality and violent. As a result, Genesis 19 and 20 speak to reader about God`s righteousness and justice. I studied historical context of Genesis 18:16-20:18 and suggested as a time of exodus. Also, I suggested three functions of these texts for reader of exodus and today`s church. First, Genesis 18:16-20:18 awaken the identity and mission of covenant. Two, Genesis 18:16-20:18 teach the attitude before God as the people of covenant. Three, Genesis 18:16-20:18 awaken the position as covenant people in the nations. Finally, I supposed that Genesis 18:16-20:18 is not two texts but one text and the mission of church as descendant of Abraham is to do righteousness and justice of God. It is a seeking of the church.
