지리학회 안팎에서 산맥에 관한 논의는 아직 계속 중이다. 산지가 많은 우리나라에서 산지를 체계적으로 이해할 수 있는 지형교육 즉 산맥교육은 필요한 지리교육 내용의 하나이다. 이러한 가운데 산맥교육을 직접 담당하는 중·고등학교 지리교사들의 산맥과 관련한 인식이 어떻게 수용되고 있는지 살펴보았다. 설문조사에서 대체로 지리교사들은 산맥체계에 대한 논의에 대해서 관심도가 높았다. 특히 현행 교과서의 산맥체계에는 문제점이 많은 것으로 지적하였고, 그 문제점으로 과학적 검증없이 과거의 산맥체계를 그대로 답습한다는 점과 실생활에 크게 도움이 되지 않는다는 점을 들었다. 한편으로 산경표의 산맥체계를 잘 이해하고 있고 산맥에 관한 정보는 주로 인터넷과 참고서를 통해서 획득하는 것으로 나타났다. 지리교사들은 심정적으로 산경표의 산맥체계를 선호하고 있지만, 산경표의 산맥체계만을 가르치는 일은 극히 드물었다. 일단 교과내용으로 제시된 현행 산맥체계는 가르치면서 산경표의 전통적 산맥체계를 가르치는 합리적 선택을 주로 한 것이 특징이다. 하지만 산경표의 산맥체계는 꼭 가르쳐야한다는 입장을 견지하였다. 백두대간 지지 인터넷처럼 교사의 설문에서도 한반도 산맥체계를 세운 일본 학자에 대한 신뢰성에 있어서 일제 강점에 따른 자원수탈과 같은 식민경제적 맥락에서 이해하려는 경향이 강했다. 산지가 많은 우리나라에서 산맥교육이 필요함이 제기 되었고 인식되었지만 어느 한쪽을 우선하여 교육시킬 수 없음도 확인되었다. 이런 맥락을 감안하여 지리교육에서 기존의 산맥을 대신할 새로운 산맥은 현대 지형학적 관점에서 정립되어야 한다. 따라서 두 개의 산맥체계가 대칭적 시각에서 논쟁을 하기 보다는 현대 지형학과 전통 산지인식 체계라는 별도의 관점에서 수용의 접합점을 찾아서 지리교육의 내용을 풍성하게 하는 것이 바람직하다고 본다.

Disputes on mountain ranges go on now in Korean geography society`s both sides. It is necessary for Korean geographical education that understands systematically mountains in Korean peninsular formed of many mountains. This study researched the recognitions of geography teachers, using questionnaire, that are teaching mountain ranges education in secondary school. In the replies to the questionnaire shown their high interesting on the disputes of Korean mountain ranges. Particularly, it pointed out many problems in secondary geography textbooks, and the problems were largely two, firstly, it was to be using traditional mountain ranges system without scientific verify, Secondly, to be questioned the usefulness of traditional mountain ranges in everyday life. While geography teachers have known well SanKyongPho mountain system. In other parts, They understood well SanKyongPyo mountain system, It shown that internet and reference books are mainly the source of Information and Knowledge about mountain ranges. Though geography teachers was of a mind to prefer SanKyongPyo mountain system, it was rare to teach only the SanKyongPyo. Geography teachers chose rational selection that taught preferentially traditional mountain system that is context in secondary textbook, added SanKyongPyo mountain system, But teachers put themselves into teaching SanKyongPyo mountain system, On reliability of Japanese geographers that had established Korean mountain ranges system, they shown strongly a tendency that understood in context of colonialistic economy like extraction of mineral resources. In this context, It is necessary to teach all together in geographical education and to establish new mountain ranges system in modern geomorphological viewpoint. lastly, We must accept SanKyongPyo mountain system into mountain recognition system in traditional natural viewpoint, not to substitute for present the mountain ranges system in geomorphological viewpoint.
