대부분 음악대학의 주요 커리큘럼은 무조음악보다는 조성음악에 대해 더 많은 관심을 둔다. 하지만 최근 들어 20세기 음악에 대한 연구를 강화하는 대학이 늘어가고 있다. 현재 북미에서는 무조음악 분석 방법으로서 집합이론이 보편화되어 있다. 본 논문은 분석 수업에서 집합이론 도입 시에 필요한 기본 내용들을 논한다. 특히 학부에서 무조음악을 공부할 때, 필자는 분석 도구로서 집합이론을 사용하기를 지지한다. 강의 현장에서 가르치는 교수에게 무엇보다 인내심과 창의적인 강의법이 요구되는데, 왜냐하면 무조음악 자체가 학생들에게 친숙하지 않은 것이며, 집합이론이 새로운 기보법인 정수 기보로부터 출발하기 때문이다. 본 논문은 집합이론을 쉽게 접근하기 위한 교수법적인 방법으로서 조성 이론과 집합이론 간의 비교할만한 것과 연관적인 것들을 몇 가지 제안해 보았다.

The core curriculum of the most undergraduate is having the interest which in the tonal music than atonal music. But recently the university that strengthening the studies about 20th century music is increasing. Currently the United States uses Set theory generally as a analytical method of atonal music. This paper discusses set theory`s fundamental notions in the side of pedagogical method. Especially in the study which analyzes atonal music on the undergraduate class, I support to use set theory as a analytical tools. It takes much perseverance and creative instruction method for the professor to teach on the field. Because, atonal music does not familiar with student and set theory starts with integer notation. This paper suggests a pedagogical tools that comparative and associated method between tonal theory and set theory to approach the set theory easily.
