Recent years quite a few of music journals, in Korea, are founded and doctoral dissertations are published successively at several universities. The music journals provide their own editorial guidelines for the contributors, and the editorial style of the dissertations combine various styles of the domestic and foreign journals. However, their editorial styles appear considerably different and raised problems for graduate students in writing their dissertations and for professors in directing them. Resoving these problems some universities publish their own style manuals and provide guidelines for their students. The Korean Society for Musicology has organized a research team with three music theorists, the three authors for the present article, for editorial style manual and studied for a standardized style especially in the field of music. The research team studied in two aspects: (1) researches of the current styles in Korea and America with an emphasis on style manuals and major music journals as preceding studies; (2) detecting and analyzing errors and problems in the current journals, mostly from the Korean journals, and presenting our suggestions for the errors and problems. In this article we provide suggestions for the standardization of the musical articles written in Korean, best suitable for the musical studies. The current article is the first part of the researches of the team and presents suggestions in the domains of "Notes" and "Bibliography," and further research results will be published in the near future. The present studies are distinctive in that we are considering in detail, in addition to the matters of books and articles, for the following subjects: musical scores such as musical anthology, opus number, title, pitch, chord names, etc.; manuscript, audio-vidio materials such CD/DVD, video tape, etc.; program note; electronic materials; encyclopedia; music critics; broadcasting materials; interview; and unpublished articles.
