현대사회 구성원들의 정치적 무관심이 심화되면서 시민교육을 담당하는 학교의 역할은 매우 중요해지고 있다. 그런데 여러 연구를 통해 나타난 정치 사회화 과정으로서 학교 교육의 효과는 상반된 결과를 나타내고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 학교 교육의 한 방법인 공식적 교육과정을 통한 정치교육의 효과를 알아보기 위해 고등학교 선택과목인 "정치"와 "법교육"을 중심으로 위계적 회귀분석 방법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 고등학교의 정치 관련 교과의 이수여부가 학생들의 정치적 지식과 태도 형성에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 주고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 특히 과목의 이수 여부보다는 과목을 진행하는 수업의 개방적인 분위기가 이러한 영향에 매우 중요한 역할을 하고 있었다.

After decades of political indifference, political education is back on the agenda of political socialization. Despite huge increases in the formal educational attainment, levels of political knowledge and attitude are barely budged. Today`s high school graduates know no more about politics than did in 1950. By the way, a variety of researches proposed the opposite positions about effect of the school in political socialization. This study focus on effects the subjects related political education as formal curriculum in school on political socialization. The results show that subjects related political education and open atmosphere in classroom can significantly raise both political knowledge and attitude through hierarchical multiple regression.
