본 연구는 무용교육의 중요성을 인식하고 올바른 무용교육에 있어 전문 무용교사가 절대적으로 필요함을 재인식하여, 현재 시행되는 체육임용고사에서 무용전공자의 실태를 분석하였다. 현재 체육임용고사는 체육전공자에게 모든 초점이 맞추어져 무용전공자에게는 불합리한제도로 작용되고 있다. 이에 체육임용고사의 무용전공자 응시 문제점과 그 실태를 분석하기 위해 전국 16개 시·도의 체육임용고사 필기시험 내용을 분석하고, 실기시험의 지역별 종목과 무용종목 포함여부를 알아보며, 가산점현황을 통해 무용전공자가 취득할 수 있는 가산점 내용을 알아보았다. 또한 각 시·도별 2005학년도부터 2007학년도까지의 체육임용고사 응시 및 합격 현황과 2005학년도부터 2006학년도까지의 무용전공자 합격자 비율을 조사하였으며, 2006년도를 기준으로 각 시·도별 체육교사 내 무용전공자 교원 현황을 파악하였다. 이로써 체육임용고사에서 무용전공자에게 합당한 제도가 선결되어져야 함에 의의를 두었다.
