퇴계의 심리이론과 서양심리이론을 비교 연구하여 인간의 내면세계를 이해하고 치유하는데 도움을 주고자 문헌을 중심으로 검토하고 사례분석을 통하여 이를 보증하고자 하였다. 비교 연구 결과 퇴계이론은 윤리적 인간성을 형성하고자 하였다면, 서양심리의 대표라고 할 수 있는 Freud의 이론은 인간의 무의식적 내면의 세계를 찾아내어 내면의 아픔과 고통을 치유하고자 하였다는 점에서 차이가 있고 비결정론이냐 결정론이냐 하는데 차이가 있었다. 퇴계이론과 서양심리이론 중 Freud이론을 중심으로 통합적으로 적용하여 인간의 심층 내면을 더 깊이 이해할 수 있다는 사실이 확인되었고 또 이를 적용하여 치유하는데도 도움이 된다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구 결과로 동서양의 비교연구가 인간이해와 치유에 도움이 된다는 점에 비추어 앞으로 이러한 연구가 더 많이 이루어져야함을 시사하는 것으로 의미가 있다고 생각된다.

The purpose of this study is to assist the understanding and therapy of human internal world by the comparative review on the psychological theory of Toegye and Western psychological theories and to assure the difference of them through exploring the existed literature and applying case study. The results are following; There is difference in that Toegye`s theory is to formulate the ethical humanity, while Freud`s theory, which is known as a representative of western psychology, is to find the unconscious internal world of human beings and to heal the internal pains and sufferings, and in that Toegye`s theory takes non-deterministic theory while Freud`s theory takes deterministic theory. And, it is found that we can understand the human deep internal mind and heal the internal pains further than ever through the integrative application of Toegye`s theory and Freudian theory. It is suggested that the more studies is needed in this area in that comparative studies help understand the human beings and heal the interanl pains of them.
