본고는 개화기 프랑스 사람들의 한국어 연구에 대해 사전 연구, 한국어 문법서 연구, 한국어 전반에 대한 연구로 나눠서 그 자료를 살펴보고 이들이 갖는 국어학적 의의와 그 한계점을 고찰하는 데 주된 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 먼저 당시 프랑스어학의 연구 경향을 살펴보고, 다음으로 개화기 프랑스 사람들의 한국어 연구 자료를 수집 분류하여 분석하였다. 그리고 이를 토대로 국어학, 특히 계통론과 한국어 교육의 측면에서 이들이 갖는 의의와 한계점을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 개화기의 연구이며, 외국인의 관점에서 이루어진 한국어 연구임에도 불구하고 이들은 체계적으로 문법 기술을 하였으며, 한국어의 가치를 제대로 발견하고 평가했다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
In this paper, I investigated that French people`s Korean language research in early modern period. For this, a tendency of French linguistics was looked into from 18th century to 19th century. Then I gathered this French people`s research material in early modern period and investigated it. And I studied its significant of Korean linguistics. Through this study, French people`s research sought after the merit of Korean language and estimated it.
