Damulism of Koguryo is familiar to us as a motto. It is a word of motto for comfort for the lost continent and a motto for resistance against the plunder of Korean history by neighboring Asian countries. In spite of the knowledge of the fact that "Damulism is the motto" of "Regain the old lost territory," it has been kept in mind as an emotional slogan. Also, it has been disregarded because of the lack of historical records. However, "Daemul(多勿)" is neither a vague and emotional slogan nor a fictitious cry to be discarded. Indeed, "Daemul" was a motto for self-defence which had been passed on since the ancient Korea as well as a shout for the restoration of national spirit. Besides, It revealed itself from the collective consciousness of three thousands of tribes. Furthermore, it had been served not only as the spiritual support for the restoration of the continent but also as the cause of struggle for the retrieval of sovereign right. That is the way the idea of Daemulism, which was the spiritual foundation for the establishment of Koguryo as well as its principle of management, having been formed. In addition, Damulism bears relations to the inside and outside of principles of Seon-do. In the Dangun Choseon Dynasty, it showed itself as the principle of "Sudanbu" which means depending a group of tribes. In the Dynasty of Koguryo, it was connected to the priniciple of "Wangito" and established itself as the expression of the will to restore the old territory. The cause of Damulism was apparently reflected in the wars against foreign countries waged by the successive kings of Koguryo. We can take a peep at the idea that Kogyryo had the will to cherish the reclamation of territory in the names of kings of Koguryo such as "Kogukcheonwang," "Kogukwonwang," "Kogukyangwang," and "Kwanggaetowang". Especially the domination of Northeast Asia in the Kwanggaetowang regime was viewed as the physical realization of Damulism. The values of Seon-do underlie in the spiritual backing of the domination of Northeast Asia by Kwanggaetowang Therefore, it is clear that the militant spirit of Koguryo is not just an expression of reckless hegemonism at all, but rather a struggle of a philosophical principle which is connected to "Damulism". However, after the "Yeongryuwang regime," in the decline of Seon-do, "Damulism also ended up like as being destined to be on the decline. The decline considered, it is actually seen that Seon-do had born relation to the inside and outside of "Damulism".
