기업경영에서 이해관계자의 중요성과 영향력이 커지면서, 이해관계자와 커뮤니케이션(communication)이 또는 인게이지먼트(engagement)가 경영의 투명성 제고를 위한 핵심활동이 되고 있다. 대표적인 수단이 보고서이며, 그 구성 체계 및 작성지침에 관해서 학계, 컨설턴트, 국제기구(예, WBCSD, CERES, GRI, ISO) 등이 많은 연구를 하여 왔다. 이 가운데 GRI 지속가능경영 보고서 작성 지침은 전 세계 산업계가 보편적으로 사용하는 것으로, 2006년 10월 5일에는 전략적 접근을 강조하는 제3판이 공개되었다. 본 논문은 우선 보고서 작성에 대한 이론적 배경을 고찰하였고, 국내 보고서를 분석하기 위한 분석모형을 설정하였다. 그리고 이에 준거하여 국내 기업의 지속가능성 보고서를 분석하였다. 다음으로 PDCA Model에 준하여 보고서 분석을 위한 체크리스트를 제시하고 국내외 철강, 자동차, 전자업계의 보고서를 분석하였다. 이러한 분석에 기초하여 지속가능경영 보고서의 개선방안을 제시하였다.

In line with growing importance and influence of stakeholders in business circles, the communication or engagement with stakeholders becomes one of key activities for transparency and for accountability of business circles. Many international organizations (e.g. WBCSD, CERES, GRI, ISO) have elaborated appropriate schemes and guidelines to give an assistance to make for a report. Among them, guideline on GRI sustainability report has been typical document in the global business circles. The paper examines, firstly, state-of-the-arts of sustainability report in Korean business circle in accordance with the framework and secondly, relevant three leaders in sustainability management in Korean business circles. Furthermore, it will strive to compare with that of global leading companies of the same industry, so that they provide some recommendations to improve their sustainability report.
