한국 철강산업은 1960년 이래로 빠른 성장을 지속해 왔으며 한국 경제의 고성장과 무역수지 개선에 크게 기여를 해왔다. 본 연구의 목적은 산업연관모형을 이용하여 철강산업이 한국 경제에서 차지하는 위상과 철강산업이 파급효과를 추정하는데 있다. 총 산출액 기준으로 철강산업과 연관산업의 한국 경제에서의 비중은 31.2%에 이른다. 철강산업의 생산유발효과는 전 산업 중에서 가장 높은 수준이지만 부가가치유발효과는 다소 낮은 수준이다. 본 연구를 통해 철강산업이 국가 전략산업으로 매우 중요하다는 것을 다시 한 번 입증할 수 있었다.

Korea steel industry has developed very rapidly through economic growth since the 1960`s. From then on, the steel industry of the Korea has made a great contribution to the economic growth and the acquisition of foreign currency. The purpose of this study is to estimate the importance and economic impacts of the steel industry on the national economy in Korea, based on an Input-Output model. The portion of the steel and related industry in the total outputs of the Korea was to be estimated about 31.2 percent. The multiplier effect of output in steel industry was very high when compared with other industries, while the effect of value-added induction was low. This study has also proven that the steel industry is important to the Korea national economy as a strategic industry for national economy.
