이 연구는 유머 텍스트의 웃음 유발에 응결성(cohesion)과 응집성(coherence)이 어떻게 기여하고 있는지를 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 응결성과 응집성은 텍스트의 연결 관계를 나타내는데 응결성은 텍스트 표층의 문법적 연결성을, 응집성은 텍스트의 내용적, 의미적 연관성을 가리킨다. 텍스트의 다양한 응결성 장치들은 텍스트를 텍스트답게 만드는데 기여하는데, 유머 텍스트의 응결성 장치들인 대용형(pro-form), 병행구문(parallelism), 억양 (intonation), 회기법(recurence), 생략 등은 일반 텍스트에서의 쓰임과는 다른 기능을 수행하면서 웃음 유발에 기여하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 응집성은 텍스트 세계의 구성 성분들의 상호 수용 가능하고 적합성을 띄는 방식에 관여하는 의미상의 조건으로 텍스트를 텍스트답게 만들어 주는 기본요건이다. 그런데 유머 텍스트에서는 구성 성분들 사이의 적합성이 파괴는 경우가 많다. 이러한 응집성의 파괴는 의도적인 것으로 이른바 `낯설게 하기`를 통해 웃음유발이라는 목적을 이루기 위한 유머 텍스트의 전략이라고 할 수 있다. 결국 유머 텍스트의 응결성과 응집성은 다른 텍스트와는 다른 양상을 보이며 이것이 웃음 유발을 목적으로 하는 유머 텍스트의 유형화에 기여하고 있음을 확인 할 수 있었다. 이러한 유머 텍스트만의 독특한 텍스트성에 대한 분석은 유머 텍스트의 웃음 유발의 원리를 규명하는 데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.
The present study purposed to examine how cohesion and coherence contribute to the laughter provoking of humor texts. Cohesion and coherence indicate the connective relations between texts. Cohesion is grammatical connection on the surface of texts, and coherence is connection in contents and meanings of texts. Various cohesion tools of texts contribute to being text like of texts. It was found that cohesion tools of humor texts such as pro form, parallelism, intonation, recurrence and omission contribute to laughter provoking while performing functions different from their uses in ordinary texts. Coherence is a basic semantic requirement for being text like of texts, which enables mutual acceptance among text components and gives fitness to them. Occasionally in humor texts, however, the fitness of the text component for one another is destroyed. The destruction of coherence is intentional. It is a strategy of humor texts for attaining the goal of laughter provoking through so-called `making strange.` In conclusion, we confirmed that the cohesion and coherence of humor texts show different patterns from other texts and they contribute to the typification of humor texts aiming at laughter provoking. Analysis of the unique characteristics of humor texts will be helpful in explaining the principle of laughter provoking of humor texts.
