Genetic Analysis of Three Short Tandem Repeat Loci and One Variable Number of Tandem Repeat Locus in the Korean Population

Allele frequencies of three tetrameric short tandem repeat (STR) loci (THO1, TPOX, and CSF1PO) and one variable number of tandem repeat (VNTR) locus D1S80 were determined in the Korean population. The heterozygosity and the polymorphism information content (PIC) values of three STR loci and a VNTR locus were 0.690 and 0.646 in THO1, 0.749 and 0.710 in CSF1PO, 0.627 and 0.562 in TPOX, and 0.878 and 0.866 in D1S80, respectively. The allele frequencies of the three loci in this study appeared to be in agreement with the Hardy-Weinberg expectations, with the exception of the CSF1PO. All loci were highly polymorphic in the Korean population, indicating g that three loci can be valuable candidates for application in forensic casework analysis, paternity testing and population genetics.
