The have kind of liposome, known as a multilamella vesicle has been used extensively in many pharmacetical and cosmetic industries. We have investigated the characteristics required for the formation of multilamella vesicles combined with emulsifiers and phospholipids. Multilamella vesicles were prepared by a swelling reaction using hydrogenated lecithin and diethanolamine cetyl phosphate. Ursolic acid could be stabilized by the multilamella vesicle system using a microfluidizer. The optimum conditions were obtained when the multilamella vesicles were passed three times through the microfluidizer; the particle size distribution of the vesicles was in the range 80~700 ㎚ (mean: 280 ㎚) as measured using a Zetasizer 3000 HS. The stability of multilamella vesicles containing ursolic acid was very good for 6 months. From the results of an in vivo test, the multilamella vesicles containing 0.2% ursolic acid, after 56 days of treatment, were found to reduce the length of the main wrinkle by about 13%, to reduce the scar appearance of the main wrinkle by about 59%, and to reduce the number of wrinkles by about 36%.
